UNICEF Receives Donation from the Musk Foundation
9 in 10 Children Are Not Connected in Africa and Asia
Elon Musk, the South African entrepreneur who has launched and runs a number of successful technology companies in the United States, including Tesla, Starlink, and SpaceX, has donated a substantial amount to the UNICEF Giga Connect initiative.
On the works, besides the financial contribution, is the possibility of collaboration with his companies in the areas of cryptocurrency, healthcare, and telecommunication.
Giga aims to connect every school to the Internet.
It might seem like an herculean task, and indeed its ambitions require at least $400 billion, to have every single school in low-to-middle income countries connected and also to deliver programs to increase media literacy and ensure that primary and secondary schools can fully be part of the global digital transformation in education.
In the coming months Sierra Leone, Kenya, Niger and Rwanda, are going through an integrated program that will serve as test-bed for deploying the programs and services of Giga Connect at scale.
