The panelists are:
Dr. Marielza Oliveira is the UNESCO Director for Partnerships and Operational Programme Monitoring, Communications and Information Sector. From 2015 to 2020, she was Director of UNESCO Beijing. Previously, she was the Global Results Manager (data scientist) for UNDP, where she also held positions as country manager for a portfolio of Latin American countries (2001-2015). Dr. Oliveira holds a Master of Science in Finance (1990) and a Ph.D. in Business Administration (1995) from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, USA. Twitter handle @MarielzaTalks
Dr. Alanna O'Malley is a historian focusing on the United Nations, decolonization, Congo and the Cold War. Her first book The Diplomacy of Decolonisation, America, Britain and the United Nations during the Congo crisis 1960-64 was published by Manchester University Press in 2018. She completed a PhD at the European University Institute (EUI) in Florence from 2007-2012. In 2009, she was a Visiting Scholar at New York University, in Spring 2017 a Kathleen Fitzpatrick Visiting Fellow at the Laureate Research Program in International History at the University of Sydney, and from August 2017-February 2018 she was a Fulbright Research Scholar at the History Department of George Washington University in Washington D.C.
H.E. Eugenio Garcia is Deputy Consul General and Head of Science, Technology, and Innovation, Consulate General of Brazil in San Francisco, USA. He is the first Tech Diplomat appointed by Brazil, and in this capacity he is the focal point for Silicon Valley and the Bay Area innovation ecosystem. Twitter handle @EgarciaVirtual
H.E. Gerardo Díaz Bartolomé is a career diplomat and currently Director of International Organizations at Argentina’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He served in Argentina’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations (2008-2014) and later as Deputy Chief of Mission of the Argentine Embassy in Washington DC (2018-2021), having previously headed the Political Affairs section of the Embassy (2016-2018). Dr. Corneliu Bjola received his PhD in Political Science from the University of Toronto (2007) and previously taught and conducted research at McMaster University and the University of Toronto. He was a research fellow at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars and a Visiting Fellow at the Australian Defense Force Academy (2012) and China Foreign Affairs University (2016).
