Sweeping Global Gains in Sexual and Reproductive Health Overshadowed by Persistent Inequalities, UNFPA Report Reveals
Between 2000 and 2020, global maternal mortality declined by 34 per cent, a success story that can be credited largely to better access to skilled and emergency obstetric care.
The strides made in sexual and reproductive health and rights over the past three decades have been substantial, yet millions of women and girls continue to be deprived of these advancements due to systemic inequalities, according to the 2024 State of World Population report released by UNFPA.
Titled "Interwoven Lives, Threads of Hope: Ending Inequalities in Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights”, the report underscores the enduring influence of racism, sexism, and other forms of discrimination in impeding progress towards comprehensive sexual and reproductive health for women and girls globally.
