The Universal Periodic Review is a mechanism created in 2008, by the UN Human Rights Council, that established a process of review by country-members to evaluate, monitor, and assess compliance with International Human Rights Law. These are obligations that States that are signatories are bound to respect: the Geneva Conventions, and international treaties such as the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.
The International Bill of Human Rights consists of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and its two Optional Protocols.
