UNDP Gathers Climate Experts and Activists to Look Into Collective Action | Interview with Dana Fisher, American University | How Swiss Civil Society Brings Change About

Climate Action as a Human Right: Senior Women for Climate Protection in Switzerland Won a Spectacular Court Case at the European Court of Human Rights

UNDP

In early December, UNDP Geneva delivered an event focusing on how citizens organise for climate action and how stronger financial commitments by governments can be submitted next year, in Brazil, during COP30, the UN Climate Change Conference, that will take place in the Amazon Region, in Belem.

I interviewed Dana R. Fisher, Ph.D., who is the Director of the Center for Environment, Community, & Equity, and a Professor, at the School of International Service, American University, she is also a Nonresident Senior Fellow at the Brookings Institution, and Chair, Political Sociology Section of the American Sociological Association. Dr. Fisher is a renowned sociologist in the field of community organising to bring about systemic change.

We spoke about her latest book, youth voices assemblies, and climate justice litigation.

Just like the youth movement, Jane Fonda Fire Drill Fridays, and other senior women activism group like Klima Seniorinnen, an organisation of senior social justice leaders in Switzerland, they say that their fundamental rights are being trampled upon due to inaction by government, and are asking for change.
