It is Election Day at the EU

The European Parliament elections are wrapping up, and Brussels will soon welcome some new or re-elected MEPs. For the European research and innovation community it is a very tense moment as the tenth EU Framework Programme, FP10, which will follow Horizon Europe, is starting to be discussed in the hallways of Berlaymont, and elsewhere in Brussels.  

Two MEPs that were strong supporters of research and innovation funding are stepping down, not seeking re-election. One is the the Portuguese Maria da Graça Carvalho, who accepted a position with her own government, and Romanian Cristian-Silviu Bușoi, a major supporter of the Horizon Europe Widening programme, which calls for greater participation of Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czechia, Estonia, Greece, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, countries with low participation rates in FP7 and H2020 projects.
