EUDR

The European Union has proposed a 12-month delay in implementing its new deforestation regulation (EUDR), extending the compliance deadline to December 30, 2025, for medium and large companies, and June 30, 2026, for micro and small enterprises.

The proposal, announced at an Agriculture Committee meeting, aims to address concerns from international stakeholders, including Brazil, which views the EUDR as imposing an unjust burden on countries with high forest cover and smallholder producers.

Brazil welcomed the delay but strongly criticized the regulation’s benchmarking system, describing it as discriminatory and a potential violation of World Trade Organization (WTO) rules.
